Liam Emmanuel Rangasamy was born to loving parents Erica and Billy Rangasamy on the 22nd June 2015, youngest brother to Shaquille, Benedict and Eli. Knowing Liam was precious, he was a constant joy to everyone around him. He had an infectious smile that could light up any room, and was a source of inspiration to everyone he met. Liam discovered his passion for art at a young age, and was immensely talented. At just 2 years old, he painted the rainbow that would one day be used to forge his legacy. When Liam was 5 years old, he started exhibiting signs of motor difficulty, and concerned parents, Erica and Billy, brought him for a check-up. Liam was diagnosed with DIPG – a rare, fast-growing brain stem tumour that forms in cells called glial cells in a part of the brainstem called the pons. To date there is still no effective treatment and no chance of survival. Only 10% of children with DIPG survive for 2 years following their diagnosis, and less than 1% survive for 5 years. The median survival time is 9 months from diagnosis. Hopeful, Liam left for treatment in the UAE immediately after the diagnosis, for his first 30 doses of radiation. He then came back to Seychelles happily. He was home schooled by his mother Erica who was a teacher for Early Year’s Foundation Stage (EYFS). Unfortunately, after 6 months the tumor flared up again. His parents took him back to UAE where they could not do anything more for Liam. With faith, his parents prayed and God opened the door in Toronto Canada at Sick Kids Hospital, where he had another 17 doses of radiation. They then came back to Seychelles, where Liam was able to go to Independent School for a couple of months. He received full time homecare from his parents, relatives, friends. Mr.Tony Soomery and the Seychelles medical teams (lead by Dr Rose and Dr Joanna) were exceptional. By the grace and mercy of God, the love that he had for the WORD of God, Liam beat the odds and he was blessed with 8 more months of enjoying life on earth. Liam lost all motor abilities a month prior to his passing. He went to his Heavenly Father on August 23, 2022. The Liam Rainbow Foundation is set up in honor of Liam’s impactful legacy.
